12DOC: Wild Dog Collars & Leashes

This is Day 4 of our 12 Days of Christmas Posts and this is quite a cool one about a company that I haven't yet really talked about, but do enjoy. I will have all posts together on one page, so that you can go through that page if you are interested in reading all of our posts. You can view that page here. All giveaways within this period last two weeks from the day that the post is originally posted, and are only available within New Zealand. Giveaway winners will be announced on my social media and vlog channel. Now let's get into today's post:

Wild Dog is a collar business from Auckland that was started by Rachel when she saw a gap in the industry. Rachel and her husband Sam are both in the professional dog industry with both training, walking and living their life with dogs and found that the products they could buy were either not up to the task or way too overpriced to buy multiples of. Rachel originally started off making leashes for her own dogs, and the dogs she walked, before being asked by other professionals in the industry reaching out requesting some. From there, Wild Dog was born and she now caters to all us non-professionals as well!

I originally met Rachel and the Wild Dog team at the Auckland Pet Expo and fell in love with them. Not only is Rachel one of the kindest people, her products are also beautiful and speak for themselves. We will discuss her products more in depth throughout this post. Sam worked with Oh My Fluffy Dog's Milo at our Auckland meet up and in that one session done wonders in regards to Milo's reactivity on leash. He used the Wild Dog Slip Leash with Milo and convinced me of the benefits of using a slip leash. You can see the passion these two people have for dogs and it made me want to support them even more. I went straight to the expo on day 2 and got myself a slip leash.

Since we are talking about the slip leash, let me tell you now about my experiences. I got this beautiful green one because I am obsessed with the colour green and Diego looks like an absolute hunk in green. The slip leash has gold detailing, and has a stopper so that you can choose how much of a loop you want. This means that you can use the same leash size for any sized dog. Now, I need to put a lot of emphasis this, if you have never used a slip leash, please do your research before going out with it! A slip leash in the wrong hands will not work as intended and can cause both you and your dog unnecessary stress. I done a tiny walk to the dairy on my road, and learned that I have no idea what I am doing with the slip leash. Knowing that Rachel is moving to Wellington soon, I decided to put a halt on the slip leash until I can pester her to teach me how to use it. If you have experience with a slip leash, I have only heard positives about Wild Dog leashes.

I then caught up with the Wild Dog team again at the Wellington Pet Expo where I had no intentions of buying anything, but I got caught by this beautiful teal collar. It is a colour that I do not have in any of Diego's products and is incredibly stunning on his fur. I have got countless amounts of compliments on this one. The other reason I love it is the gold hardware, which is another thing I have never had on a collar before. It makes it look a lot more classy, and put together than a black plastic clasp. The actual material is a vegan leather called Leatherite which is similar to Biothane however the Leatherite is less shiny, and has more movement to the same thickness in Biothane. It is actually hard to tell the difference unless you have each time side by side. The Wild Dog collars are weather, and adventure proof with them being an easy to wipe clean collar.

I got Diego's collar in the 1" width, however they also do a thinner option as well as the 1.5". I find the 1" works perfectly for Diego where it is thick enough to be seen, won't dig in but also is not huge. Like the slip leashes, it means that they cater for most dog sizes! They also have clip on leashes in the same material as the slip leashes which look super cute. These are all homemade by Rachel herself! I have forgotten to mention but the colour range is incredible, you need to look at their site to see some of their other colours, but is hard to stop at just one because all the colour combos are beautiful.

Now is your chance to win a collar and leash from Wild Dog. Rachel was kind enough to donate these for the Christmas Giveaway which I am more than thankful for. Once the winner is drawn, it will be up to you to work with Rachel on what collar/leash combo is available. It is based on what is available at the time, and all colours might not be available. This is open internationally and I am happy to pay for shipping if it is won outside of New Zealand. As I have mentioned in other posts, it isn't allowed to request likes or follows as an entry requirement but both Rachel and I would appreciate it a lot if you wanted to follow us on our Social Media pages.
