October Photography Challenge

Hello! I am the type of person that critiques my own work harder than anyone else. I see tiny little errors that most people do not even see, and those errors just stare out at me. This is a reason why I don't produce as much content as I would like. I become a weird perfectionist that is never happy with the end result so I don't release it to the public. I don't like my own photos, and when people compliment them I get kind of surprised. Like I know they are good, but I don't think they are that great.

With that in mind, I have decided to set myself a challenge for the month of October. I am going to go out and take a good photo every single day. I want this to be taken and edited on the same day which is something I haven't done in ages. I haven't taken photos every single day for a few years now and I am actually super excited for it.

The challenge part of it is that I want to be 100% happy with the photo I produce each day. If I am not happy with it, I have to go back out and get another one until I get a photo I am happy with. This will help me not critique my own work too much in the future hopefully. I hope this means that I learn to look at my work as a third party, see what needs work but don't let that affect my overall thoughts on the photo.

Not only do I want to take and edit photos every day of the month, I want to also take this time to continue learning. I haven't watched or read up on photography, or my editing software all year. I had already made the decision to do this in October, and then I saw Karl Shakur post that Adobe Max is free this year. If you don't know Karl, he is one of my favourite Instagram Photographer to follow. He makes amazing pieces of art, so definitely check out his Instagram. As for Adobe Max, this is a three day conference with hundreds of classes to attend on all of the adobe software. I have managed to already plan my three days of activities to delve deeper into Lightroom, Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro. This is usually a paid conference so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to learn more. That isn't until the end of October though, but I will definitely let you guys know how I find it!

In the meantime, I am looking at doing some of the online classes on SkillShare. I recently got a Skillshare membership to learn some HTML coding for work, but saw that there are quite a few creative courses as well. There are a range of classes on Canon cameras, photography basics, as well as Adobe Software walkthroughs. I think because I am doing the Adobe Max conference, I will focus mainly on the photography and camera basic courses. I hope this will give me a better idea of how to frame my photos, get the best lighting and make the most out of the gear I have. It does help I have an amazing model in Diego.

I do also want to get a bit outside of my usual photos. Do some more creative photoshoots as well as get some landscape photos of the amazing scenery around Wanaka and Otago. I hope this will spark my creative juices even more, and give me more ideas moving forward.

So here is my first photo that I took today. I went out to Lake Hawea to walk Diego and decided this was the best place to do my first photos. I went to the lake with one type of photo in mind, and ended up coming out with a completely different photo. I think that is the joy of doing this every day, that I can continue to flex my creative muscles. I actually continued to take photos on this trip and ended up with 3 or 4 photos that I absolutely adore. I couldn't pick them all, and there is one I want to save as an Instagram surprise so this is my final love for the day.

I would love for you to join me on this challenge, step out of your comfort zone with your photography, take some different photographs, learn some new things, and most of all have fun with it.
